Description
99.9% pure DMSO has both liquid and solid/crystal states of matter due to its relatively high freezing point of 18.5 °C (65.3 °F). This means that at or below room temperature, it is in a solid/crystal state, and above it, DMSO is a liquid.
Instructions for Handling DMSO in its Crystal State
If your DMSO is in a crystal state, you can liquefy it by following these steps:
- Place the container of DMSO in a wide pot or container filled with hot water (not boiling).
- If possible, close the container to retain heat.
- Ensure that the water does not go above the neck of the bottle.
- After 30-60 minutes, replace the water with fresh hot water.
- Keep the bottle at room temperature above the melting point or place it on a heater overnight.
General Information
DMSO has been used for over 100 years in the United States. It is a natural substance derived from wood pulp and is harmless when used with the proper precautions. DMSO is an organic, colorless, natural, non-synthesized liquid extracted from lignin.
Important Note: DMSO is intended for use as a solvent only. Any other use is the sole responsibility of the user. Never use more than 5 drops or rarely 10 when needed. Always use super purified or distilled water. DO NOT use with tap water because you can bring in contaminants.
